UKPAC RESPONSE TO PRCA BELL POTTINGER ADJUDICATION AND PUBLICATION OF ITS RESPONSE TO THE GOVERNMENT CONSULTATION ON INTRODUCING A STATUTORY REGISTER OF LOBBYISTS

The UK Public Affairs Council (UKPAC) notes the decision taken by the Public Relation Consultants Association (PRCA) in relation to a complaint about Bell Pottinger. We have not seen the material considered and so cannot comment on the conclusion reached. PRCA is not a member of UKPAC but we note that one of the benefits that UKPAC membership offers to those who sign up to our terms and conditions, is an independent audit of complaints handling processes, in terms of transparency and public confidence that might have been valuable in this case.

UKPAC has submitted its response to the Government Consultation on Introducing a Statutory Register of Lobbyists. This focuses on greater transparency, wide coverage based on a workable definition and the importance of ethical standards.  A copy of our response can be found here:  UKPAC Response to Government Consultation on Introducing a Statutory Register of Lobbyists

UKPAC has also published an updated register for the quarter to 29 February 2012 with 2041 entities listed as clients by lobbyists (this figure includes clients listed by more than one organisation or individual who lobby on its behalf). There are 1387 individuals listed; these are employees of lobbying companies and individuals in CIPR membership. Under organisations, there are 67 APPC member companies registered along with the companies and other bodies who were named as the employers of individual CIPR registrants.
