Profile Information

Where are you from?
Peterborough
Have you lived in Peterborough long?
Since December 2009
What is your own vision for Peterborough?
I would like to see the city making the same impact as other cathedral cities, with a more vibrant cultural life with the statutyory, commercial and voluntary asrtd sectors working together to bring a real cultural offer to the city.
One thing you'd like to change about the place?
I would love to see Peterborough as the regional cultural centre, rathewer than a retail park. There are so many groups in the area taking part in arts and cultural events, but they are disconnected, poorly marketed as a sector and underdeveloped.
What areas of the Citizen Power project are you most interested in?
Really interested in the Social Media project. Am an enthusiastic environmentalist, so the sustainable citizenship project also takes my fancy. I am also concerned about the degradation of my local area with the demolition of buildings by the railway station and the Peterborough District Hospital site and would like to see a sensible linked development taking place. I would also like to see a concentration on good quality cultural opportu nities - not just a retail and night drinking economy.
What's your favourite place to eat in Peterborough?
Have yet to find an ideal.
Favourite place to go?
Thorpe Hall and the fields around it.
If a Martian came to Peterborough, what would you show him/her/it to explain what the place was about?
I would be a bit embarrassed to show the failure of the City to break free of its market town mentality. I would be sad to show empty shops and underused industrial spaces that could, with a little investment and some real imagination, convert into a vibrant cultural centre that will draw people in to the area for a quality evening or weekend out.
Tell us some more about yourself
After one year in the City I would love to become more involved in community projects. I have just retired afte 30 years working in London. I am involved in the Peterborough Male Voice Choir and a Governor at the Voyager Academy. I am keen on Arts, Culture and Environmental issues. I am a beginner "natural" beekeeper and I'm also training a Hearing Dogs for Deaf People puppy.
